Blackout Curtain Liners:
An Easy Step To Better Sleep

Blackout curtain liners are a real must to helping your child know that it is time for sleep. Your toddler will know it's sleep time because his bedroom his dark even though it is light outside. Black out curtains make it easier for you to have boundaries about sleeping and getting up time. If it's dark then it's still sleep time.

The image that you might hold of black out curtains could be that they are bulky, ugly, made from black material and perhaps reminiscent of war time - and not suitable for a cute toddler bedroom! But they are usually white and can be bought separately or can come part a pretty, printed fabric designed for children. Just what you might need!

Black out curtains can also be thermal curtains to keep the heat in the winter and help lower your heating costs. And in the summer they will reflect the sun's heat and so keep the bedroom cooler in the hot months. And some black out curtains even dampen noise so this could help your toddler sleep through outside noises.

If your do not yet have blackout liners and if your child is waking early in the morning because of the sun and light streaming into his bedroom then it is definitely worth trying a blackout liner. If he wakes up and sees that it is still dark then either you can reassure him that it is still sleep time (or rest time, so that you get more sleep) or eventually, he will learn to go back to sleep. Using this rule daily will soon help him know when he can expect to get up.

When you order children's curtains to be made you can usually have liners sewn into the curtain. If you already have curtains for your toddler's bedroom you can order the blackout curtain liners separately of the size you need and then clip them on your existing curtains or attach them to the same rail. If you prefer blinds you can also buy blackout blinds.

However, even if you have a blackout liner, light will also come in through any gaps above the curtain and around the curtain. Sometimes the amount that comes through is so insignificant that it is not light enough to wake your child so this isn't a problem. Alternatively, you can opt to have a pelmet to block more light.

It is also very useful just to have some blackout curtain liner fabric handy so that if you are going away then you can bring the blackout curtain liners with you. Then you can pop them behind the curtains that are in your holiday accommodation and you can more easily have the same sleep routine - and all get better sleep when you are away.

Liners are usually machine washable and made from 50% cotton and 50% polyester.

Having lined curtains are an easy way to help your toddler get more sleep for years to come.
