Boys Bedroom Ideas

Boys bedroom ideas need to reflect the personality and interests of your little boy. Lots of toddler boys love trucks, cars, trains and aeroplans and there is a huge range of beds, bedding, wallpaper and accessories to make your boys bedroom both fun and restful.

Boys Bedroom Ideas: Themes

You may like to incorporate a theme into your boys bedroom, to reflect his sense of adventure or fun. Ideas might be:
  • pirates: a boat bed and flags on the walls, or a plain bed with nautical bedding and a color scheme of blues and reds, a treasure chest to store toys
  • dinosaurs: dinosaur bedding with a green colour scheme on the walls and dinosaur patterned cushions
  • cowboys: bedding and wallpaper
  • trains: a train bed or bedding with with train wall stickers or memorabilia
  • cars: a car bed or bedding with cushions in the shape of wheels
  • space: bedding with spaceships and glow in the dark stars and planets on the walls and ceilings
  • farms: a tractor bed with light green walls and animal cushions
  • Boys Bedroom Ideas: Furniture

To find the right boys bedroom furniture you need to have an image of what you want the bedroom to look like at the end, and what atmosphere you want to create. There is so much well made furniture for children these days so whether you want antique chic or modern chic there will be something to suit your needs. Often with toddler's bedroom the bedroom needs to suit both the taste of the parents and toddler!

Deep open shelves are an excellent choice in a bedroom as their bedroom can also be used as a playroom. His toys, books and puzzles can easily be stored away and your toddler can easily get them out as they are safely within his reach.

Little boys tend to have collections of their favourite toys - perhaps soldiers, aeroplanes, cars and trucks and they will love getting them out and lining them up to play with. Floor space is great but things can easily get knocked out of place so a little table and chair set would be very useful or the top of a book shelf, out of the way of feet and vacuum cleaners.

    Boys bedroom furniture might include:

  • sturdy bed
  • bookshelf with the top for display and storage
  • drawers for clothes (wardrobes aren't so necessary at this age)
  • cushions and a beanbag for rough and tumble
  • table and chairs for drawing and collections
  • storage boxes and shelfs for his toys
  • night lamp
  • Boys can tend to be more boisterous than girls (not always..) and boys bedroom furniture needs to be made safe. Any freestanding units may need to be screwed to the wall as some little boys love to climb and if a cupboard did topple over it would be very dangerous.

Clothes for toddler boys can be stored generally in drawers rather than a wardrobe. Having a trundle bed with storage underneath, or a standard toddler bed with a underbed storage unit, ideally on wheels, provides very useful extra storage.

A wooden toddler bed looks great with the classic boys bedding choice of stripes or checks. Also as a bonus, varnished wooden bedroom furniture tends not to show up scratches and knocks. However your little boy may love trains or cars and in our toddler beds section you'll see great examples of toddler beds to suit every taste.

    Boys Bedroom Ideas: Storage

Often children have so many toys that they forget what they have. Keep your little boys toys well organized and use storage boxes to compartmentalize them into categories. It might not stay so organized but with a system in place you can easily and quickly sort them out now and again. By keeping things organized your toddler will easily be able to find toys and enjoy them. A messy corner will generally be left untouched which is a shame when there's so many lovely toys amongst the muddle.

Choosing the best storage solutions will make tidying easier for you and your toddler. Toddlers like to put toys away and are keen to help in their strive to be grown up and independent. Open boxes or baskets that can be slotted into shelfs make the job easy and seeing toys at the top of the boxes is a cosy feature in a child's bedroom.

Lots of little boys love to race cars and trucks along the floor so flooring should be hard-wearing and smooth. Painted and waxed wooden boards, laminate or smooth carpets work well.

All children love their own space in the house and their bedroom, with a bit of time and research, can be a sancturary for quiet play and sleep. Choose a couple of your favourite boys bedroom ideas and let you toddler choose the winning choice!
