Firstly do you mind buying second hand clothes? Hopefully not - as the difference is huge. Lots of parents buy lots of clothes for their toddler and then it turns out that perhaps their child grows so quickly they hardly wear them, or sometimes a toddler only wants to wear certain clothes - again and again and again! Lots of new clothes are therefore hardly worn and look like new.

Places to find cheap toddler clothes

Ask friends and family. They are usually only too happy to get rid of stuff they're not using. Freecycle is becoming established in difference countries (particularly the US and the uK) and is a great source for recycling and receiving recycled clothing and items for free. Can't get cheaper than that.

House sale, garage sales, church sales, car boot sales and National Childbirth Trust sales are the next great source for toddler clothes.

If you're looking for new cheap clothes then large supermarkets offer very cheap clothes and offer have sales on and multi-buy deals. The quality is good enough and the designs are generally attractive and appealing. They don't tend to have lots of frills and fancy designs but toddlers generally just love a pocket, a hood and a pretty picture of a tractor or a cat!

And of course there's the auction sites and you can bid away and bag a bag of toddler clothes cheaply and then receive them through the post.

If you shop online then you can register online for your favourite stores and then receive notifactions of when there's a sale and often with vouchers included. Keep an eye for any stores that are closing down as they will need to get rid of their stock at reduced prices.

What's worked for us is a combination. We've been given lots of clothes from friends and for the special occasions or just when we see something in the supermarket which we just can't resist we buy something new. Also, our toddler always likes choosing something himself now and again and had great fun showing off his new top (which no way would I have chosen!) But he loved it and looked so happy in it, it was well worth getting it.
