Ear Plugs For Sleeping Well

If it's your turn to sleep well then be sure you to use ear plugs for sleeping through! You don't want to have the opportunity to get a good night's sleep only to be woken by the noise of either your children or the cat outside.

Whilst your partner is looking after your child you can simply sleep undisturbed and the next day you will feel the benefits of sleep - you'll feel good. You will be more energized and you can use that energy to deal with your toddler's sleep issues and help him learn healthy sleep habits so that you all get more sleep.

So here's the information you need to choose the right ear plugs for sleeping well.

Noise Reduction Rating
Most ear plugs are advertised with a Noise Reduction Rating, or NRR. The NNR is based on laboratory experiments rather than human experience and are useful to gage and compare their effectiveness.

Ear plugs can be made from moldable and pre-molded silicone or foam:

Moldable Silicone Ear Plugs
The company Macks make a range of ear plugs. America's top selling ear plugs are Mack's Pillow Soft ear plugs made from moldable silicone rubber so that you can mould the silicone to fit your contours of your ears exactly.

All you need to do is shape the silicone into a ball and then place it over the opening of your ear. You then flatten the ball to form airtight seal - you must not push into your ear canal. To remove it you simply press the puttty from behind the ear and take the silicone out.

You can use the same ear plug up to 5 times. Watch out - they are sticky so will collect dust and dirt quickly. The NNR is 22.

Foam Ear Plugs
There are many different foam plugs available. Be sure that you do not share your ear plugs with your partner. Each of you should have your own set and the easiest way to do this to buy different colours.

Macks sell both pink and purple ear plugs for women made from super soft foam that are designed for a smaller ear (many women buy ear plugs to block our their partner's snoring)) and your partner could have teal coloured plugs. With the foam ear plugs you need to pull up and back your outer ear which will straighten your ear canal and then insert the ear plug into the canal and hold it until the foam expands to fit your ear.

When you remove the ear plugs you need to do it slowly with a twisting motion so that you gradually break the seal. Take care and be sure to read the instructions carefully as you could damage your ear canal if you push the earplug too far into the canal or take the ear plug out too quickly. You will need to discard the ear plugs after several uses as they will get grubby from ear wax or dirt. The NNR of these foam ear plugs is 30.

High NRR
Hearos sell ear plugs with an NRR of 32 (Ultimate Softness Series). They are made from a super soft foam and come in a range of colours.

Custom-Fit Ear Plugs
If you want custom-fit ear plugs then you will need a qualified audiologist makes an impression of your ear. This is more expensive than buying ear plugs off the shelf and the custom-fit ear plugs from ProGuard reduce noise by 30 decibels. It is probably worth trying this if the foam or moldable silicone ear plugs don't work for you.

Fun Ear Plugs
Ear plugs for sleeping can also be wacky! Truly! You can get ear plugs with decorated ends and though these are more intended for women going to dance clubs we couldn't resist adding them in here too! You might like them just for fun. From JenGen you can find ear plugs with tassles, gems, bows and more.

Ear plugs for sleeping well are a bonus to try. They could help you turn off from your day and help you to relax so that you can simply sleep. Try different kinds to see which ones suit you best. And when you take it in turns to sleep through, relax knowing that you're ALLOWED to sleep!

Waking up having slept through will remind you of the benefits of sleep which in turn will motivate you to help your toddler develop healthy sleeping habits - a major plus for everybody.
