Easy Scone Recipe
An easy scone recipe is so quick to prepare. You can either do it on your own and your toddler can help you out. Scones make great toddler snacks for home or on the move. This easy scone recipe does not use baking powder - sometimes baking powder can actually spoil a scone recipe as you can just taste the actual baking powder which can spoil the scone taste. This basic scone recipe makes 9 scones. Ingredients: 200g/8oz self-raising flour 50g/20z caster sugar 50g/2oz butter A quarter teaspoon of salt 100g/4oz sultanas 1 egg 75ml/5tbsps milk Jam and cream for the filling (optional) 1. Heat the oven to 220C/425F/Gas Mark 7. 2. Grease a baking tray. 3. Sprinkle a work surface with flour, ready for the prepared mixture. 4. Sift the flour in a bowl. 5. Add the sugar, butter and salt. 6. Using your fingertips make the mixture into breadcrumbs. 7. Add the sultanas. 8. In a separate bowl, break the egg and add the milk. Beat together. 9. Add a little of the egg mixture into the breadcrumb mixture and stir together. 10. When it is blended in add more egg mixture until all but about a tablespoon of the egg mixture is left (to be used later). 11. Roll out the dough on the floured surface until it is about 1.5cm thick. 12. Using a cutter cut out scones and place them on the baking tray. 13. Brush them with a little of the remaining egg mixture. 14. Place them in the center of the oven for 10 minutes. 15. Carefully lift them on a wire rack to cool. 16. When cool either eat them plain, or with a little butter and jam. Or for the ultimate scone, add clotted or whipped cream and jam. A delicious and easy basic scone recipe! You can replace the sultanas with blueberries or cherries. To make cheese scones, simply leave out the sugar, use 25g/1oz of mature cheddar cheese (grated) and double the amount of milk.
