Kids Bedroom Decorating Ideas

With kids bedroom decorating ideas it's time to have fun! There is such a fantastic range of toddler bedroom ideas that it can be difficult to know where to start from painting a bedroom to kitting it out with the right furniture and accessories.

When you're thinking of kids bedroom ideas and decorating it's helpful to plan the room together with the choice of bedding. If your toddler is having a character-themed bedding then you may want to tone down the usual bright colours by having a very light wall colour. Or you could match the character bedding with character wall paper borders or wall stickers.

Or if your toddler has bedding with stripes in or a main bold colour you may then want a more varied decoration on the walls. You need to take the room together with your furnishings and bedding that you either already have or that you have in mind. Ideally you'll want all of your toddler bedroom ideas to mesh well and blend in to create a lovely atmosphere which is both fun and restful.

If you want to use some of the pretty motif wallpaper of which there is so much fantastic choice and you might want to opt to just having wallpaper on one wall and a light paint colour on the remaining walls. If you do this then the room can reflect your child's interest but also retain a feeling of light and space.

Putting wallpaper on the wall where the bed is against will also add a sense of cosiness to the sleeping area in the room. Ideas for wallpaper on one wall could be spaceships and cowboys for boys or fairies and flowers for girls.

Be careful not to overload the bedroom with lots of cuddly toys. Cuddly toys are often a favourite present to give to babies and young children but usually a child only has a few favourite ones. You might opt to keep out the favourite teddies and they can be a feature of your toddler's bedroom. You could then store the others for tea parties in a toy basket or add a few to higher shelves for decoration.

Usually children's toys can be brightly coloured so if you opt for a pastel coloured wall you can balance and warm the room with a brightly coloured rug and blind or curtains. The colourful toys will then not look out of place but will add charm and splashes of colour to the bedroom.

If you want a predominately light coloured room but also want to experiment with bright colours then you could paint the walls a light colour and then add large, framed painted pictures in abstract colours. In this way, you can have the bright colour without the risk of being stuck with it!

When you're looking for kids bedroom decorating ideas, and especially for a toddler, then the basic rule is to keep it simple and light. If you want to add a bright colour add it to just one wall. Light, one colour decor will add a restful atmosphere to your toddler's bedroom.

If you want to add a character, such as Disney Princess or Thomas the Tank Engine, then you could use wall stickers which are decorative yet easily peel off. You can also add a wall paper trim but beware, you'll need to redecorate the bedroom when you take it off! However, if your toddler absolutely loves a character then you might choose to go with it, and you can, for example, get a whole Thomas The Tank Engine wall mural.

If you love the idea of having a brightly coloured room for your toddler then think about using lighter coloured pieces such as pictures or photos on the walls. If the room is fairly large and well lit from natural light bright colours can work really well. You could also balance the vivid colour by having dark floorboards with a light coloured rug.

Kids bedroom decorating ideas are fun and give you a chance to be creative and to make your toddler's bedroom a special space for him. If your toddler loves his bedroom he'll enjoy spending time, whether to play or sleep. Enjoy all your wonderful kids bedroom decorating ideas.
