Choosing The Perfect Toddler Boy Bedding

Little boys often have a big interest in certain topics and you can find the perfect toddler boy bedding to match. Mirroring his preferences will excite him and help him want to go to his toddler bed. And to sleep!

There is a great selection to choose from and first you need to consider your boys interests.

What does your little boy like?

  • Is he into trucks or trains?
  • Or maybe aeroplanes?
  • Does he have cars and vans galore?
  • Or does he love being a builder? Or a cowboy?
  • Does he like being a pirate on the high seas?
  • Does he love dinosaurs?
  • Or is he more into a character, such as Buzz Lightyear, Noddy or Spiderman?

Making your son's bed and bedroom a special place, a haven for him, will support his newly found independence and his desire for more control. He'll be able to play, use his imagination and come to know that his bed and bedroom is a place to be happy and contented.

Good connections will help your son when it's time to sleep.

You will need to check carefully what the bedding is made from. Ideally you want 100% cotton so that it is cool in the summer, warm in the winter and breathable.

Character Bedding

Popular character bedding for boys include:

  • Thomas The Tank Engine
  • Bob The Builder
  • Winnie The Pooh
  • Cars
  • Spiderman

Sometimes it's the parents you aren't keen on these characters! However, if you are happy with the characters, and if your boy has a keen interest, then they could be perfect for your toddler!

The place where we found with the best selection for toddler boy bedding was Netkidsware which sells Disney Cars, Thomas The Tank Engine, Mickey Mouse, Winnie The Pooh, Transformers, SpongeBob, Spiderman plus lots of themes.

Remember if you just get a cover you will need to get a duvet. The Toddler Bed Company sell a machine-washable duvet to fit a toddler bed. It is available in 4.5 tog and 9.0 tog and is the inner is made from 100% Hollowfibre Polyester and the cover is 50% polyester and 50% cotton.

Spectacular Toys also sell a good range of character toddler boy bedding, including Thomas The Tank Engine and JC Penney sell Disney Cars toddler bedding.

However, we found that character bedding is often a polyester/cotton mix, so be sure to check carefully if you are only interested in 100% cotton.

Themes
Superstores often sell themed bedding but generally it is for single beds rather than toddler beds.

A US company, Olive Kids, sells beautiful toddler boy bedding based on a large variety of popular themes and none are based on a TV or film show. Their bedding is colourful, fun and imaginative. The designs and detailing, including outline stitching and ribbon trim, are lovely.

You may want to bear in mind that most of their bedding can be washed only in a cold, delicate wash which may not suit all parents and the pillow case fits a large pillow, not a toddler sized pillow.

If you want a theme AND be organic, then PoshTots sell a super-car themed organic toddler bedding 4-piece set. It is made from 100% organic cotton, the print uses low-impact inks and the filling for the bumper is from recycled material.

Organic is generally more pricey and this set costs around $270.

Patterns
If you prefer a pattern, then you might like blue gingham. It's easy on the eye and is available in a lot of stores (Babou is one seller).

The Toddler Bed Company sell a good range of patterned and plain toddler boy bedding which are reversible, machine washable and inexpensive (around $35 for a pillow case and duvet cover).

The benefit of having a pattern is that you are hopefully safe that your boy won't change his mind about a particular theme or character. A pattern may also be helpful to create a calm space and personal favourites can then be added by adding a themed cushion or pillow.

Baroo sell a simple striped duvet cover and pillow case, patterned on one side, plain on the other. Again if this is what your child likes then go for it! He is unique and not every boy has to like a particular character or theme and he may be just as happy with something plainer.

Have Fun!
When your new bedding arrives, be excited with your boy. Make the bed with him and get his bed ready for night, so that he can look forward to it.

Try not to see it as another chore to add to the list, but share with him how lovely his bed will be. It'll help him feel good about where he sleeps and help his feeling of him being special and secure in his own bed.

When you choose your toddler boy bedding, try and match his tastes. He is his own little person now and you can support him as he grows his own personality. If he is happy in his bed and his bedroom, he will be able to settle down to sleep more easily.

He may still need your help but step by step, bit by bit, he will find going to bed easier and so too will you.
