Toddler Bunk Beds

Toddler bunk beds can be the answer for a shortage of space IF your toddler can be at the bottom and an older child can be on the top bed. There are some lovely beds to choose from but the key question is how mobile and safe your toddler will be. For many toddlers a bunk bed is too tempting to climb and will be too dangerous.

If you have a toddler and an older child then the safest thing to do would be to have the oldest child in the top bunk and your toddler at the bottom. However, the older child needs to totally safe too. Questions to ask are: do they get out of bed at night time? How drowsy are they? How safe are they?

A good alternative for shortage of space would be a toddler trundle bed, so a bed that slides out from underneath another. This means you have two beds but it only takes up the space of one. And no one call fall off the top bed!

Bunk beds can be great fun but are usually best suited to older children. However, we did find the below bunk beds which could be suitable depending on the age and ability of your children.

Toddler Bunk Bed From Thuka

Toddler bunk beds from Thuka

This wooden bunk bed made by the well-known Danish bed company, Thuka. It's made from Scandinavian Polar pine which is sealed with clear lacquer for an easy wipe clean finish.

The design of the bunk bed varies according to your needs. Both beds can have bumper rails so your children won't fall out of bed. The beds can also be arranged as two single junior beds and can be converted into raised mid sleepers (you would need to buy a conversion kit). Or you could have it arranged as a bunk bed with a seating area underneath (pictured).

You can even have an optional swing fitted but this would be more suitable for a bedroom with your children are quite a lot older as for toddlers this could be a safety hazard.

The ladder can be fitted either side and mattresses are available to buy with this bed.

The dimensions for this bed are larger than most toddler beds and are:
171cm long x 103cm wide x 146cm high

Thomas Kids Bunk Bed

Although this isn't a toddler bunk bed it sure is a very special bunk bed which all children who love Thomas will love! It takes twin mattresses (not included) and is specially made for each order.

Your toddler would need to sleep in the bottom bunk and it would really only be suitable for an older toddler who would be able to climb in and out easily.

You would need very special rules about who is allowed where on the bed so that there are no accidents from the top bed.

Other Bunk Beds

Some bunk beds can make each bed into a den. This could be very attractive to a toddler and makes their own bed into their own den. Thuka design beds which can have lots of add-ons, such as tents, slides, towers, swings and under-bed drawers.

There are so many gorgeous wooden bunk beds with the standard single bed mattresses available and there will be a style to suit every taste: painted, wooden, modern, decorative, a fantastic range and at a range of prices. If space is an issue (which it usually is with kids in the house!) then have a look at some trundle beds. If toddler bunk beds are the best option for you then be sure to have very clear rules and boundaries about who is allowed to climb the ladder and be on the top bunk.

If you thinking of having a toddler bunk bed then always remember that safety needs to be the top priority.
