Understand Toddler Sleep And Benefit!

Having your toddler sleep easily and well would be wonderful. Yet how difficult this can be sometimes, or unfortunately, often, or, worse, all the time!

You're tired, your child's tired, bedtime is a nightly struggle and the benefits of sleep, once upon a time taken so easily for granted, are sorely missed and longed for.

Here we look at the process of toddler sleep and your sleep. By being informed you can feel better equipped to deal with your toddler's sleep and by understanding your own sleep, you can make sure that you are taking care of your needs too - so easily forgotten whilst parenting.

So take time now to find out about:

Starting a bedtime routine will immediately help your toddler's sleep - plan it today and start it tonight.

Although there are no miracle cures to suddenly make every toddler sleep through the night immediately there are lots of things to do to help him and, so you, have better sleep - a calming, structured routine, consistent parenting, sleep training, or more simple tactics such as a themed toddler bed or his own special toddler bedding.

And there are ways to tackle harder behaviourial problems such as your toddler not wanting you to leave him, or waking up lots of times at night time, waking too early...

Take a look at the Sleep Problems section to find the problem that you are experiencing and see the tips and techniques that you can try. Given time and patience, they will help your family sleep and function more easily.

Do remember, and take heart, that whatever problems you may be having, your toddler is growing and as he grows and develops, his sleep will get better. Toddlerdom is temporary - the joys of it and the lows of it will change in time. Do you remember when he was a tiny baby? It probably feels a long time ago, yet it was only a year or two ago.

You probably have stories to tell of what you've done when you're tired. Perhaps, lost your car keys and found them in the fridge? Or, found the cheese in your hand bag. Or perhaps sleep deprivation makes you intolerant, stressed and grumpy. It's hard work so take care and be easy on yourself.

Remember that your toddler's sleep will improve! As it does, AND as you make sure you look after yourself when the going is tough, you will all benefit.
