What Makes A Good Parent?
What makes a good parent? Every parent wants to be a good parent and it's often said that parenting is one of the hardest jobs in the world. Looking after a new baby, dealing with toddler discipline, sleep issues, school-aged children and, later on, teenagers, can be rewarding as well as demanding so here's some ideas to inspire and motivate you when the going gets tough. Good parenting comes from the heart and involves accepting the uniqueness of your child and each child, if you have more than one. It involves accepting their own individual personality and interests which in turn will develop your child's confidence to be true to themselves. Good parenting is also consistent, loving and sets a good example. Here's a list of qualities that might be part of what makes a good parent and may help you think about what you would like your own parenting to include: - spending time together
- being loving and affectionate
- having fun and playing together
- building trust and providing safety
- letting your child know what to expect
- providing clear rules and boundaries
- giving praise and encouragement
- accepting your child just as they are
- fostering a sense of joy and togetherness
Because the image of a good parent is different according to whether you are the child or parent, we thought it'd be interesting to get the different perspectives from children, parents and grandparents and see what answers are most repeated.
